The lakes of Melu and Capitellu
Description
Positive elevation: 568m / Negative elevation: 570m Level: OOOOOOO
In the superb Restonica valley, starting from the sheepfolds of Grotelle, reach the spectacular glacial lakes of Melo and Capitello. This hike is certainly one of the best known in Corsica. The first lake, Melo, is nicknamed “the apple” because of its shape. Of glacial origin, it is frozen six months a year just like its neighbor, Lake Capitello which is frozen 8 months a year. The latter is considered the fourth largest natural mountain lake due to its surface area and the first for its depth (42 m). With luck, you will be able to observe the golden eagle or the bearded vulture during this hike.
