La Castagniccia and Monte San Pedrone
Description
Positive elevation: 790m / Negative elevation: 781m Level: OOOOOOO
Landlocked in the mountains of Haute-Corse, surrounded by maquis and chestnut trees, Castagniccia is home to true Corsica. This region owes its name to its chestnut forests, planted during the 15th and 16th centuries to provide local populations with chestnuts and especially their flour. Full of character with its small villages, its old stone-roofed houses and its baroque churches, this region has many surprises in store for you! With its 1767 meters of altitude, San Petrone is the highest peak of the mountain range in the region. In open weather it offers an extraordinary panorama with the sea on both sides, a splendid view of the Tuscan archipelago and sometimes the Italian coast.
